With Ottawa sitting on the Ontario/Quebec border, we often receive questions from potential patients on which of our physiotherapists can speak English and/or French. The Life Therapies administration team is also frequently asked how a patient can determine if a PT is truly licensed in Ontario or perhaps is registered with specific qualifications.

Enter the College of Physiotherapists of Ontario. The College maintains a Public Register, a fully accessible and online database tool for anyone seeking information on a registered physiotherapist. The Public Register is the place to information not only on physiotherapists registered to practice in Ontario, but it includes a listing of physiotherapists previously registered with the College.

The Public Register was designed to offer patients transparency. Patients can opt to search by name, with additional options to select authorized activities including the Administration of a Substance by Inhalation; Pelvic Floor/Incontinence Physiotherapy; Spinal Manipulation; Acupuncture; Wound Care; and Tracheal Suctioning. The database will provide results in two ways:

  1.  If the physiotherapist’s Registration Status says Registered Renewal or Registered Initial the person is currently registered with the College.
  2. If the Registration Status says Revoked, Suspended or Expired, the person cannot practice as a physiotherapist.

In the event you wish to obtain additional information (employment history, licensing in other jurisdictions) about a physiotherapist in Ontario, patients can contact the College at registration@collegept.org or by calling 1-800-583-5885/416-591-3828 ext. 256.
